A consistent Pilates routine can produce results

The definition above is powerful. What have you committed to in order to be the best you can be this year? Have you refreshed your commitment to some health goals? To get real benefit out of any exercise program, you need to stay at it. I know, easier said than done, right? Isn’t this a little like your mom telling you to stop making faces or it will stay that way? So, what way do you want to “stay”?

Joseph Pilates put it this way: “If you will faithfully perform your controlology (Pilates) exercises regularly — only four times a week for just three months — you will find your body development approaching the ideal, accompanied by renewed mental vigor and spiritual enhancement.” Maybe he overstated it, maybe he didn’t.

Pilates is an excellent complement to any other sport you may enjoy, such as running, golfing, cycling or horseback riding. Many people find that Pilates makes them better at these activities because they have increased core strength, balance and flexibility.

Taking private or duet lessons will introduce you to the Pilates fundamentals. In settings such as these, exercises can be tailored to your individual needs. If you prefer to take a group mat class, keep in mind that the teacher may not be able to give you individualized attention. Be mindful to perform the level of exercise that is right for you. A well-trained Pilates instructor will guide you through the different modifications, as necessary.

So take the time to treat yourself to Pilates. Keep your routine consistent, and you’ll see the results!
