I know a guy …

I know a guy who can show you how to heat your home in Wisconsin for $40 a month in the dead of winter!

I know a guy who can get you off the grid (a term referring to your utility company’s connection to your home) for good!

I know a guy who can use the ground underneath your feet to heat and cool your home all year!

I know a guy who can use the sun to heat and cool your home, and run your hot and cold water supply!

When I got into energy efficiency 10 years ago, I had no idea what I was getting into. It’s amazing to me how many natural resources we have out there to help us live very comfortable lives in our homes and offices without relying on foreign oil, government involvement or corporate bureaucracy. Then why don’t we just do it? It requires work.

There is work involved to learn how to live a more sustainable life and be less dependent on government and man. They want us to want them, so they make it easy to sign up for fuel to come to our houses and buy products that run our lives. We all can do our part. The question is: How much do you want to be independent? I know people who live very full lives without being dependent on outside sources; and no, they don’t live in a hut at the foot of a mountain. They live in your neighborhood. The difference is that they did the research and planning, and took the initiative to change the way they do things. It could mean changing the clothes you buy, the food you eat, the car you drive or the heating and cooling source you use.

I am not here to tell you to change. That’s your decision. My purpose is to supply you with the resources to look for options. What you do with those options is strictly up to you. My weekly talk show is aimed at uncovering some of the things I have discovered during the past 10 years and pass them on to you. Our annual expo is about talking face to face with people who are changing a little part of their world and giving them the information to do it. Our website has educational links and our radio stations provide daily tips on how to change what you do. Education is king. Not learning is easy; educating yourself on how to make a change is hard.

We are trying to help with the process with our upcoming Answers to Energy Eco Expo on Saturday, February 8 at Shopko Hall, with seminars, workshops and vendors. Let me show you what I have learned. Hope to see you there!
