Children’s manual: Your child’s unique natal chart

Children’s manual? I bet you were told they don’t have one, that you just have to wing it and hope you don’t scar them too badly along the way. Well I’ve got good news for you, they do come with a manual of sorts called a natal chart. It’s more of an energetic blueprint than a step-by-step guide, but is an invaluable tool in understanding the needs of your child and how they approach their world from day 1 to day 6,570 and beyond.

A natal chart is a snapshot of where the planets were at the moment your child took their first breath. The sun may have been in Leo, or Virgo, or any of the other 12 zodiac Signs, but the moon, Mars, etc were also somewhere, and each of them has a unique archetypal energy that manifests in different ways depending on where they fall in your unique chart.

A natal chart is complex and no one part is in total isolation, which is why it’s important to see an astrologer to understand the full picture of your child. However, I’d like to give you a few examples of how knowing your child’s chart can help you as a parent to guide them positively toward their natural talents and inclinations and gain a deep understanding of their perspective on life.

If you have a child with strong Leo in their chart they have a strong desire to shine, much like the sun, which rules this sign. Enrolling them in theater, dance, or an organization where they can have the opportunity to become a leader of their troupe would be wise. If not given a positive stage on which to be admired and adored Leo children will find more destructive ways to garner the attention they need (not want mind you, but need). This can come in the form of pushing the parents buttons, over dramatizing every little thing, or even being aggressive toward other people. Any attention, good or bad, is preferable to zero attention for the Leo child.

On August 22-23 2016 Saturn, the planet of restriction and discipline will conjunct Mars, the planet of action and willpower. Children born with this aspect will take on a kind of hybrid of the two archetypes. It can result in them being relentlessly competitive, with truly impressive stamina. It’s important to get them involved in some sort of team endurance sport, an activity where they can compete while also learning to work well with others. Otherwise they can easily become that kid that no one wants to play with because it isn’t about having fun, it’s only about winning. On the flip side, if not nurtured well, they may take a turn toward laziness, restricting any activity because if they can’t win every time then what is the point of playing? They will be very hard on themselves physically and push their limits at every opportunity so your challenge as a parent will be to keep them safe while allowing them to test their physical limits whenever and wherever possible.

Exhausted yet? And this is only the tip of the iceburg of what you might be able to find out from a reading of your child’s natal chart. If I had my way every hospital would send mom and dad home with a copy of their baby’s chart and a report detailing some of the major energetic themes their wee one is likely to exhibit as they grow and thrive. But we aren’t quite there as a society yet, so for now I will be content with writing these articles and letting you see that there is much more to astrology than just your sun sign. And it’s never too late to better understand your child or yourself.
