January 2015

A new year has arrived — along with all the expectations of what it will bring. Newborn 2015 offers each of us a fresh start, a blank canvas. What 2015 will hold for you is limited only by your imagination and will to succeed!

Perhaps this is the year you finally take that trip you’ve always wanted. You’ll travel near, far and everywhere in between; you will see all this wide world has to offer. In 2015 you will immerse yourself in other cultures, make new friends and learn more about yourself than in all your previous years combined.

Or perhaps you will experience something a bit closer to home. Maybe you’ll break a bad habit or overcome a challenge that’s been plaguing you for some time. Is this the year you’ll turn your finances around, start investing for the future and pave your way to becoming debt-free?

Maybe 2015 will open the door to learn a new skill. Is a different language, a musical instrument or an artistic medium like sculpture or painting waiting for you? Adding a new means of self-expression to your life can be extremely fulfilling. Perhaps you’ll make it a priority to journal every week or even every day this year. Just think of all you’ll discover about yourself and the world around you when you take time to reflect.

Will this be a year of healing? If you’re hurting, know that you deserve to feel happy. Make this the year you truly and fully forgive yourself for your past transgressions — both those against others and yourself. Take those necessary first steps to move past the pain and rediscover joy.

Perhaps you’ll feed your soul this year. Whether you find your connection to something greater in a defined faith or outside of one, rejoice in it! Take time to nurture your spiritual side.

Is this the year you start — and stick to —your goal of building the healthiest life you can?

After some friends told me about HypnoBirthing, I knew I wanted to take that route with my new pregnancy and upcoming delivery, instead of using potentially dangerous drugs. HypnoBirthing teaches you how to calm your mind and put yourself in a fearless and hopefully pain-free hypnotic zone during your labor…

People are often surprised that newborn babies can be tested for hearing loss, but in fact, Wisconsin law requires that all babies born in a hospital be tested before they leave the hospital. When a child is not born in a hospital, the family has 30 days to complete the…
Who didn’t get a new sweater or another article of clothing for the holidays? Or perhaps with a New Year’s goal of weight loss and improved fitness and in a few weeks, a new jean size to boot? Another popular resolution involves decluttering and house cleaning. Whatever the reason for…
This is a rather delicate subject, but there are a few thoughts I’d like to express. Some people feel that science is the enemy of faith, and that therapy can make people cold and selfish. This viewpoint of science goes back to 1633, when Galileo faced the Inquisition for determining…

We all have numbers we keep track of. Chances are you know your weight, birthdate, phone number — maybe even NFL rankings. Although this article does not contain the numbers ESPN wants you to know, it does contain important ones you might not. The purpose of this article is to…
We have been doing a lot of research as of late into the potentially harmful chemicals and additives that not only show up in our foods, but in our environment. Sure, nowadays it’s impossible to be 100 percent clear of these items in your diet — but what about cooking…
Do you ever find yourself transforming into someone you are not in certain situations? Maybe you work in a politically charged corporate environment or are unable to talk openly about your passions at family gatherings. In these situations we may feel like chameleons, morphing our behaviors to align with perceived…
There is an old saying, “When your feet hurt, everything hurts.” Equally so, when our feet feel good, so will the rest of us. If you have ever been the recipient of a foot rub, you are probably nodding your head in agreement. Reflexology goes beyond the simple feel-good nature…
Winter shoveling is a hard and long chore that we all get sick of. Often, we can’t wait for it to be done. Rather than hating it with a passion, take the time to build your back so you can get the shoveling done and enjoy the rest of your…
Your new diet and fitness routine had you dropping pounds and looking and feeling good — until it suddenly just stopped. Now what? So, you think you’ve hit a “plateau”? A plateau is essentially a point in your health where things just need to be adjusted. Health is an ongoing…
