January 2016

Welcome, 2016!

2015 was a year not unlike others: it had its share of ups, downs, stillness and chaos. 365 days, 52 weeks and 12 months filled with happiness, sadness, laughter and tears. Looking back, it feels almost fleeting… time gone by so quickly.

And here we are, back to another January to begin a fresh New Year. We know it will happen and yet, it’s a surprise when it catches up with us. Soon, a childhood has gone by, an adolescence has been survived, and a lifetime passed.

We think January is the perfect time to bring clarity to your life. It brings about a new perspective, new goals. Be kind. Spend time with people who love and respect you, and who respect and love you in return. Take risks. Delight in contentedness and comfort. Have fun!

For times gone by, my dear
For times gone by,
We will take a cup of kindness yet
For times gone by.
We two have run about the hillsides
And pulled the daisies fine,
But we have wandered many a weary foot
For times gone by…
And there is a hand, my trusty friend,
And give us a hand of yours,
And we will take a goodwill drink
For times gone by!
—Auld Lang Syne, Modern English Version

The right combination of diet and exercise is one of the keys to a long and healthy life. While many people find adapting to a healthier diet challenging, that challenge often pales in comparison to the intimidation felt when working out for the first time in years. Exercising after an…

It is January and we are entering the thick of winter. This a very different scene than the one we woke up to just three months earlier, and nature just seems to take it all in stride. Have you ever seriously pondered the resilience and adaptability of nature? Can you…

Furry dogs, cuddly cats, fluffy hamsters, and feathered birds may be the preferred pets of choice in homes across the country, but a fair share of pet lovers are enamored with reptiles and decidedly more unusual pets. The leopard gecko is one lizard that many reptile fans find is a…
When disappointment hits, it can feel like a punch in the stomach! You know what I’m talking about — disbelief, helplessness, frustration, anger and a resounding, “Are you kidding me?!” That happened in the life of my family recently. Without going into details, it was a crushing disappointment. Just when…
Last month, my article was titled, Standard American Diet (SAD) — Is it feminizing our men? The answer is yes! The SAD is laden with foods high in animal fats, unhealthy saturated and hydrogenated fats, high in processed foods and low in fiber, complex carbohydrates, and plant based foods. This…
