Psst! We’re about to let you in on a not-so-well-kept industry secret: Due to deadlines, magazine writers often have to create their articles in advance. So, as we write this, what is hopefully the last snow of the season is just finishing dumping inches of the soggy white stuff all over our state. But, by the time you read this, the snow now littering our streets will hopefully be nothing more than a vague memory you shrug off while basking in the tender warmth of the late spring/early summer sun.
What better time than now to enjoy that sun? Bookended by April (Garden Month) and June (Great Outdoors Month), May itself is chockfull of great outside activities and celebrations. Here are just a few events that might prompt you and your family to get out and about:
Barbecue Month: Grab the veggies and your favorite protein and fire up that grill!
National Physical Fitness and Sports Month: Celebrate May by trying out a new fitness activity. If you notice you’re not performing at the level you would like, consider acupuncture! Kathryn Coppola of Madison Acupuncture & Natural Health shares “4 ways acupuncture can improve fitness.”
Exercising outdoors? Remember to protect your skin. Blessed Thistle’s Dr. Carrie Decker offers tips for staying safe in the sun in “Get your summer skin on!”
National Bike Month: Get your road, mountain or other type of bike out of storage, pump up those tires and start cycling.
National Pet Month: We humans aren’t the only ones raring to get outside now that the weather is nicer. Consider taking your four-legged friend for a walk or romp at the dog park. But remember: As is always the case with Wisconsin, the weather can be unpredictable. There undoubtedly will be days when you want to stay inside. You have plenty of options on those occasions too!
