A campaign of wellness

The political season is in full swing. Politics have made their way into just about every inch of everyday life: from the radio to television to the neighbors’ yards and bumper sticker collections.

With all the stump speeches and promises being made, we here at Nature’s Pathways thought we’d get in on the act. No, we’re not running for office, but we do want to play an important role in your life — and maybe even change it for the better.

Our vow

So here it is, our very own campaign to become a force of wellness and positivity.

Our mission is simple. The Nature’s Pathways team is dedicated to making our world better.

Our goal is to empower our expert authors — and you — to make a difference. We know that a strong community is key to accomplishing this, which is one reason we’re such staunch supporters of local business. Above all else, we are committed to providing you and those you care about the information needed to make educated decisions about fitness, nutrition, organic and sustainable living, and more!

We urge you to join us in this vision. Take a look through the pages of this month’s magazine. Here you will find excellent examples of how much our team and authors care about making a difference, as well as oodles of resources and information to help you achieve your own personal wellness goals.

Your call to action

Before you vote next month, it’s a good idea to take stock of your own values and see how they compare to those of the candidates in your local and state races. Now’s also a great time to take stock of how you yourself are living your values. Do you practice what you preach? Have you encouraged those in your community to be well?

If not, now is the time to get involved. Share your knowledge and resources with others in need.

Offer a copy of this magazine to friends, family and neighbors and discuss what you’ve learned. Join the dialogue on Nature’s Pathways’ Facebook page or on Twitter.

Remember: We can have a better world. We just need to work for it.

The family-owned restaurant tradition continues for Steve and Linda Nisleit. Steve’s lifelong dream was to own his own restaurant after spending several of his younger years working at his grandparents’ restaurant in Random Lake. He purchased a building in need of much repair in 1979, and two years later opened…
Ahh! Can you feel the sensation associated with this sound? It’s the feeling of exhilaration of a cool shower on a hot day, a quenching gulp of water after a good work out or simply a warm rain followed by a magical rainbow. Water: it’s what we are made of;…
The orange glow from a pumpkin signals fall is in the air. When we see the fall harvest of pumpkins we plan for the jack-o-lanterns that will light our porch and for the seasonal aroma of a freshly baked pie. The goodness of the pumpkin is something we can share…
Homemade pizza is great any time of the year, but it’s cheaper and more flavorful when you can use ingredients from your garden, a friend’s garden or the farmers market! Change up the ingredients so that everyone will enjoy. Make each third of the pizza different in order to please…
“You’ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself.” —Glinda, the Good Witch, “The Wizard of Oz” A few weeks ago I had a conversation with a client who was floundering under an avalanche of work. Although she is an upper level manager, with…
Over the centuries, what we now know as “socially responsible investing” has emerged from faith-based or values-based investing. Followers of Christian, Jewish and Islamic faiths, as well as many indigenous cultures, have carefully considered the impact of their financial decisions on future generations, the environment and other human beings. Today,…
Glutathione is the master antioxidant that affects everything in your health — whether it’s how your body reacts to a meal of junk food or whether or not you wind up with Parkinson’s disease or cancer. Although our bodies naturally synthesize glutathione from glycine, cysteine and glutamic acid, levels tend…
Nrf2 is short for NF-E2-related 2. It is a powerful protein that is present in each cell in the body but must be released by an Nrf2 activator. Once released, it moves to the nucleus of the cell and bonds to the DNA at the location that is the master…
We have been discussing core strengthening for your equine partner, and in this month’s article we will continue learning new stretches and exercises. For a quick review, core strengthening can improve almost any horse’s performance, as well as lessen the chance of an injury happening. Continue to have a safe…
It has been around for thousands of years, has innumerable health benefits, and after butter and margarine’s heydays, is finally getting the attention it deserves. Welcome to the spotlight, olive oil! But not just any olive oil deserves the limelight. All varieties are not created equal, and it’s easy to…
There is a great interest in maximizing our health in our culture: physically, emotionally and spiritually. However, when we struggle with our health, we often wonder, “What does health really mean?” First we must distinguish between healing and “feeling a bit better.” We have been taught that feeling a bit…
