We feel like we’ve been talking about the weather a lot here at Nature’s Pathways. It is a big deal to survive winter and make it to spring, not only because it feels nice physically but there are also a variety of emotional benefits to milder temperatures.

However, April holds much more than peeks of sunshine and the promise of summer:

National Poetry Month — There’s something to be said about putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and feeling a sense of accomplishment when you’ve created something original. Inspiration is everywhere!

National Autism Awareness Month — While we’re learning new things about autism every day, there’s still so much to know. The aim of this nationally-recognized month since 1970 is to educate the public about autism. We’re grateful several contributors to Nature’s Pathways help do this every month — be sure to check out what they have to say.

National Garden Month — This one isn’t so surprising. The old adage, “April showers bring May flowers” is true, and helps to make Garden Month very relevant here in Wisconsin. Whether it’s a full-size backyard garden or herbs and spices on your windowsill, try your hand at having a green thumb this month.

National Pet Day: April 11 — It’s no secret this magazine loves pets! Whether you’re a cat or dog person, fish or reptile fan, or parakeet enthusiast, the benefits of having an animal in your life are immense and range from lowering your chance of depression and heart attack to simply increasing your ability to calm down and relax.

International Dance Day: April 29 — Recognized since 1982, this day, also known as World Dance Day, promotes the importance of dance. Although it originally began to persuade the idea that dance is a significant form of education, we think it’s also a fun way to express yourself, exercise and let loose.

Whether you choose to continue to celebrate one of the above, enjoy it for the first time, or have your own April traditions to keep alive, we hope you are able to delight in each new experience.
