Twohig Dental

Dr. William J. Twohig, IBDM, DDS, lives by two simple rules: First, do no harm. Second, think globally, not locally.

"That simply means that I will take as many measures available to protect and improve my clients' health, and I always see the big picture," Twohig says. "I believe my clients and I share the responsibility to reach their health goals."

Twohig's approach to dentistry is both holistic and biological. A biological approach is a blend of clinical practice, sound scientific knowledge and the traditions of natural healing. Biological practitioners like Twohig try to find the systemic causes of illness. He favors the least invasive, least traumatic and least toxic means of diagnosis and treatment to support the body's natural ability to heal itself.

"The relationship between your oral health and physical health is most often overlooked and conditions go undiagnosed. But everything that happens in your mouth affects your body and vice versa," he explains. "Your teeth and gums can induce illness in the rest of your body if not properly treated, so let's prevent disease — not just treat the symptoms of an illness."

Twohig Dental offers such services as oxygen/ozone treatments, safe mercury removal, non-surgical periodontal therapy, advanced esthetic and cosmetic dentistry, minimally invasive dentistry for adults and children and in office or at home bleaching. Dentures, partials, crowns and bridges, mercury-free composite fillings, re-care with a highly trained hygienist including some of the most advanced treatments for periodontal disease, xylitol education, nutritional and medication consultations, and oral cancer screening are also options.

Twohig, DDS, graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1976. He has continued his education, later earning a degree in naturopathic medicine as well as an advanced degree in Integrative Biological Dental Medicine.

"There were many things in the field of dentistry that I questioned all those years ago, including the use of fluoride and amalgam (mercury) fillings," he says. "For more than 15 years I have not used amalgam fillings and did not place many before that."

"My training has provided me the opportunity to offer the most advanced treatment for safe mercury removal, treatment that extends above the standard of care prescribed by the powers that be. We also have removed all fluoride treatments due to lack of evidence that this chemical has more benefit than is a health hazard."
