Osteopathic Medicine & Physical Therapy Group of Northeast Wisconsin – ... Treating you and not just your symptoms

Osteopathic Medicine & Physical Therapy Group of Northeast Wisconsin (OMPT) is a locally owned business with 19 employees. Based in Appleton, OMPT provides unique medical services to residents of the Fox Cities and the surrounding communities. As a matter of fact, OMPT is the only osteopathic medical clinic in the country with five osteopathic physicians to treat you and not just your symptoms.

Doctors of osteopathic medicine, or D.O.s, are fully licensed and board certified physicians and surgeons. Osteopathic physicians complete four years of medical school followed by a residency program. In addition to the classes their M.D. counterpart’s take, the osteopathic physicians at OMPT have received 300 – 500 hours in the study of hands-on manual medicine and the body’s musculoskeletal system (referred to as osteopathic manipulative medicine). Only 20 percent of D.O.s choose to practice osteopathic manipulative medicine. With this additional training though, the physicians at OMPT bring a hands-on approach to medicine and view palpation and manipulation as aides to the diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses.

Osteopathic physicians emphasize that all body systems operate in unison, and disturbances in one system can alter functions of other systems. By recognizing the close relationship between body structure and function, D.O.s have a knowledge base for treating you and not just your symptoms.

Osteopathic physicians can specialize in the full spectrum of medical specialties, from family medicine to neurosurgery, and hold unlimited rights to practice medicine in the United States. By combining unique osteopathic principles with traditional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, the D.O.s at OMPT offer a balanced system of health care to both prevent and cure disease.

With this unique combination, you get the best of both — a medical doctor skilled in adjustments, too.

OMPT’s history

The practice was originally established by Robert W. Johnson, D.O., in 1952. Current owner, James E. Marotz, D.O., joined Dr. Johnson, in 1989. In 1993, the clinic moved to one of its current locations, at 1010 S. Oneida Street, Appleton. As a matter of fact, OMPT now offers three locations to serve you. In addition to the Oneida Street location, OMPT has a clinic at 3916 N. Intertech Court, Appleton and an office inside the Orthopedic Sports Institute, Appleton.

Because OMPT chooses to operate separate from large corporate health care, the physicians and physical therapists can offer more personalized service. Rather than a nurse practitioner or physical therapy assistant, patients are seen by licensed physicians and physical therapists.

And, as a result of positive patient response, OMPT has grown to five osteopathic physicians and five physical therapists, and offers a variety of medical services.

How OMPT can serve your business

Decreases in productivity as a result of health-related issues cost employers a great deal of money. OMPT provides medical care, at the lowest cost, for treating back-related medical problems. OMPT strives to decrease expenses, and provide both health and financial benefits to the patient and employer.

OMPT staff members participate in back pain and migraine initiatives to improve the health of the community and decrease employer health care costs. The costs and disability associated with back pain and migraine care are well documented. In one company, Dr. Marotz implemented a program that decreased incidence of migraine from six (6) percent to less than two (2) percent of the employees, improving productivity at that company.

Given OMPT’s osteopathic approach, advanced training, specialized methods, and long-standing, well-respected dealings, OMPT is the premier medical specialty option for treatment of neuromusculoskeletal-related problems in the local market.
