Driftless Depot – Your healthy food source in Spring Green!

Driftless Depot, an organic market, deli and café, is home to conscientiously sourced, high-quality, organic, locally farmed produce, meats, fish, cheeses and dairy. It is well worth the drive to Spring Green to experience such a variety of healthy options that support a sustainable environment.

“We have received very positive feedback since we opened in June 2011,” says Debora Morton, who owns the store. “People really appreciate the fact that we make it so easy for them to pick up quality, fresh, healthy food, and that their purchases support local growers. The store’s pantry is our own personal selection of tried-and-true products,” she adds.

Careful planning and research went into their choice of offerings. The selected items are conscientiously sourced. “We know our vendors and we know how they produce goods,” informs Morton. “We offer certified organic whenever possible … with international items we select small European artisans that use sustainable methods if they are not certified organic.”

Step in the store and you don’t know where to start. Be it the organic produce and dairy or the local and international pantry items, you’re sure to find both what you’re looking for and some nice surprises. In the unlikely event that they don’t have what you’re looking for, they take requests!

In addition to the many organic market, deli and café items (see sidebars), they also serve several flavors of gelato, a rich, creamy Italian ice cream, which is made by a 3rd generation Italian-American family using only the freshest ingredients.

To round out the store’s offerings, artisan gifts and baskets filled with specialty food treats abound. They also carry ornaments, one-of-a-kind jewelry, t-shirts and cards. The Mortons enjoy featuring local entrepreneurs, such as artists, authors, fine basket weavers, glass artisans, greeting card creators, photographers and soap makers.

Upon your arrival at the store, it won’t take you long to realize that the Mortons’ hearts are truly in it. They share some wonderful and unique healthy food options with their customers that they have approved of themselves. “Our mission is to help people enjoy the eclectic bounty of the food world. We want customers to come and have fun with food, be healthy and make their tables special,” explains Morton.

Make it a point to visit soon! The Mortons would love to have you.
