Specialized Therapy Services

Since 2002, Dave Vollmers has been helping to free patients of chronic pain or alignment issues by treating their mind, body and spirit as one being. He does this through myofascial release, a form of alternative therapy with a hands-on technique, which he became passionate about after growing frustrated with the healthcare system and wanting, above all else, to help people feel better. Pain, according to Vollmers, has three components: physical, emotional and spiritual, and treating all of these areas is more effective than typical therapy, which only addresses the physical.

Myofascial release, which was created by John F. Barnes, PT, is a form of therapy that looks at the soft tissues of the human body known as “fascia.” Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein as well as all of our internal organs, including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord and can become restricted and cause pain or discomfort after injury, dehydration or trauma. Myofascial release helps to loosen these restrictions and improve flexibility and stability.

Barnes describes his system’s holistic approach in this way: “the use of myofascial release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of myofascial release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, though the enhancement of strength, flexibility and postural movement awareness.”

At Specialized Therapy Services, there are two major rules: the patient is in charge and we never force the fascial system so we never cause injury. Each patient’s needs are assessed individually, and Vollmers never turns anyone away. He believes that myofascial release can benefit everyone for their own individual reasons and wishes to educate his clients to take charge of their own bodies.

“I will never be able to express fully with words or gestures how genuinely grateful I am to you for helping me release my sorrows, regain my life (and spirit) and my will to live it … I am grateful to you for being such a wonderful therapist and for the quality of care you provide.”

“In 1994 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic myofascial pain. In the past ten years I have had a variety of treatments, all with varying degrees of success or failure, some helping only for a short time. Regular myofascial release treatments are different. Working with Dave enables me to be almost completely pain-free! My flexibility and mobility have returned. Most of all I now have the energy to do things again because I am not drained by the chronic pain. Coping with flair-ups is easier as they are not as debilitating as they were prior to treatment.”
