The 10th Frame

It’s not often that I go out to eat and splurge a bit from my “only eating healthy” thought process. Well, today I did just that! I took out the family for hours of fun at The 10th Frame in Appleton.

We took advantage of the $6 unlimited bowling option (Sunday through Thursday, including shoes) this cold Sunday to work up a great appetite for lunch. My 3-year-old nephew had a blast with his first-time bowling experience and seemed to enjoy aiming for the bumpers more than the bowling pins. It was nice getting in some winter exercise while we watched my dad beat us all with his 180 bowling score. Even if you’re not a bowling expert (like me), it’s truly a fun bonding experience! Best of all, we burned calories and worked up an appetite for the delicious menu designed (with the help of his mother) by owner Chad Van Daalwyk.

Being a vegetarian, I went with the Homemade Veggie Quesadilla. Filled with sautéed onions, green peppers and black olives, and topped with cheese. The crisp tortilla had a delicious grill flavor. No matter how many quesadillas I attempt to make at home, I cannot seem to master this perfection. The salsa on the side gave it just enough bite. If you are looking for something less cheesy, they offer three great fresh salad options as well.

My father decided to continue his quest for the perfect roast beef sandwich and ordered The Lefty. He said it has to be number one, and if not, a close runner-up on his list. The sautéed green peppers and onions were a perfect complement to the tender shaved roast beef, all smothered with Wisconsin provolone cheese and served on a warm hoagie. When I asked him for his comments on the sandwich, all he could say was, “Tastes like more.” That’s a great sign when he finishes his plate and wants another!

My sister went with the Ben’s Tender Melt, which features crisp chicken tenders, cheddar cheese, ranch, lettuce, tomato and bacon all served on sourdough or in a wrap. She went with the sourdough bread and raved that it was absolutely delicious! She truly loves her chicken sandwiches and said she would certainly order this one again. Her fiancée went with the Strike Burger, which typically would be a ½ lb. beef burger patty, however, at The 10th Frame you have the option to substitute the beef for chicken, which is just what he did. This burger features tomato, bacon, BBQ sauce, lettuce and cheddar cheese. He said it was “a delicious Wisconsin burger!” The tangy sauce was the perfect flavor to complement the others.

My fiancée went with the Hahn’s King Pin burger, which features a ½ lb. beef patty with your choice of cheese and, of course … bacon (the perfect complement to any meal in his mind). It was grilled perfectly to his preference with just the right amount of smoked bacon. He thoroughly enjoyed it.

All of our meals went well with our day of bowling and football!

From healthy to hearty, you truly have an array of options to choose from at The 10th Frame. Round up your family or friends, and come for a night of live entertainment and free bowling (21 and over) from 9-midnight with a shoe rental. Or, stop in to watch a sporting event on one of the many TVs … and don’t forget to play a game of good old-fashioned skee ball!
