Active Body Wellness

Shots, surgery and medication shouldn’t be the only path to a pain-free existence. This is the principle on which licensed massage therapist Rob Reader founded Active Body Wellness LLC in 2007. Licensed massage therapist Wendy Halfpap joined Reader in the practice in 2011.

This Mequon-based massage therapy practice specializes in relief of acute and chronic pain. With more than 1,500 hours of specialized training, both Halfpap and Reader offer very advanced and effective therapies to their clients.

“Healing both the body and the mind together works best,” says Halfpap, who integrates relaxation techniques (breathing, aromatherapy and hot stones) with stretching and trigger point therapy to provide long-term, positive results for her clients. Halfpap, who graduated from the Lakeside School of Massage in 2007, also offers CranioSacral Therapy®, a gentle approach that releases deep tensions to relieve pain and dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and performance. “This therapy works quite well on individuals with a wide range of medical challenges, from migraines to fibromyalgia,” according to Halfpap.

“Pain should not be something people live with,” says Reader, the only certified Muscle Release Therapy® practitioner in the state. Reader graduated from Lakeside School of Massage in 2005 and immediately distinguished himself as a therapist for individuals with high body performance needs, chronic pain, injuries and high stress. Combining in-depth training with an intuitive ability to trace pain to its source, he not only has become the massage therapist that other massage therapists seek out, but has also been the official massage therapist for the Milwaukee Ballet since 2006. Reader also often treats visiting performance artists and dancers, including celebrities and professional wrestlers.

“We work together as a team, and our combined experience benefits our clients,” Reader says.

“It’s not uncommon for one client to come to me for CranioSacral Therapy® and then see Rob the next time for Muscle Release Therapy®,” Halfpap adds.

Seeing both massage therapists is encouraged, and it’s this teamwork-style environment that makes Active Body Wellness unusual. There is no competition for client retention between therapists, which can occur in a massage therapy practice. “We have the same goal in mind: pain relief. And we share our knowledge so our clients can achieve this,” Reader explains.

“After seeing Rob and Wendy, my carpal tunnel symptoms have been so reduced — it’s nothing short of miraculous!” says client Jeanette Edwards. “I’m so grateful to them both.”
