Custom Health Pharmacy Inc.

Custom Health Pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy. Many people get a puzzled look on their faces when hearing that. Compounding is actually what pharmacists did before medications were manufactured. Every medication is made by the pharmacy and dispensed for a specific patient. We make capsules, creams, gels, suppositories, rapid-dissolve tablets and even medicated lollipops.

Compounding provides the ability to treat patients in a way that is customized to their needs. One example of this is bio-identical hormones. Bio-identical is a term that describes what types of hormones are used. Bio-identical hormones are structurally the same as the human body produces, thus they are biologically identical to human hormones. They are then dosed in a way to restore physiologic levels. That means the goal is to return your hormones to normal levels.

Another way treatments can be customized is through the ability to administer medications through the skin, otherwise known as treating it transdermally. For example, many people take medications for neuropathy or arthritis, and these medications cause side effects such as extensive drowsiness or stomach upset. Those same medications can be incorporated into special creams that move the medication through the skin so the pain and inflammation can be treated by applying the cream directly to the area. This eliminates many of the side effects.

Physicians often prescribe compounded medications for reasons that include (but are not limited to) the following situations:

  • When needed medications are discontinued by or generally unavailable from pharmaceutical companies, often because the medications are no longer profitable to manufacture.
  • When the patient is allergic to certain preservatives, dyes or binders in available off-the-shelf medications.
  • When treatment requires tailored dosage strengths for patients with unique needs (for example, an infant).
  • When a pharmacist can combine several medications the patient is taking to increase compliance.
  • When the patient cannot ingest the medication in its commercially available form, and a pharmacist can easily change the medication to a cream, liquid or other form that the patient can easily take.
  • When medications require flavor additives to make them more palatable for patients, most often children.

We are proud to be able to assist the growing number of patients who have unique health needs that off-the-shelf prescription medicine cannot meet!
