Famous Dave’s

“Meat, meat and more delicious meat!” That’s what my guests were saying at dinner at Famous Dave’s. “I can come here and order tenderloin just as I would at a supper club … it is so good!” one diner said. “This is the best salmon I have had in a long time. I love this perfectly seasoned sweet and spicy glaze!” said another.

Of course, when you hear “Famous Dave’s,” you think of the best BBQ ribs around; with their great house-made sauces created just for the Famous Dave’s restaurants. However, now Famous Dave’s has tapped into the healthy eating market as well with their new Citrus Grill menu. With four different menu options, including Citrus Grilled Salmon or Shrimp, Steak Tenderloin and Dave’s Naked Ribs, all served with sweet and juicy grilled pineapple steaks and fresh steamed broccoli, there is something for your rib lover and your healthy food lover!

We had four people in our party that evening and had to start the meal off with a “not so healthy” All-American BBQ Feast®. This serves four to six people, and we had to try it because it includes all the menu items Famous Dave’s is known for. We devoured the Texas Beef Brisket, St. Louis-Style Spareribs, Country-Roasted Chicken, Creamy Coleslaw, Famous Fries, Wilbur Beans, corn on the cob and corn bread muffins! The guys finished this quickly and had to try all the perfectly spiced Famous Dave’s BBQ sauces on the table. My personal favorite was the Devil’s Spit, which had a great amount of spice and tang. All of this is served in a metal garbage can lid to remind diners that the very first smoker that Famous Dave made was out of a garbage can!

My favorite appetizer was easily the Smoked Salmon Spread. This is made with Famous Dave’s own Hickory Smoked Salmon, cream cheese, capers and chipotle peppers and is served with fire-grilled flatbread that is cooked perfectly with just enough spice. If you like salmon, you cannot leave without trying this! The homemade BBQ chips come out to every table and are a great opportunity to try all the sauces provided at the table. There is a sauce for everyone, no matter the preferred spice level!

One diner ordered the Citrus Grilled Salmon for his meal. After finishing it off very quickly, he said, “This salmon has a perfect sweet glazed taste and is done to perfection.” His guest ordered the Citrus Grilled Shrimp and she agreed that entrée was perfectly done. “It melted in my mouth, with just enough spice and sweet mixed with a bit of lime flavor.”

One diner could not leave without ordering what Famous Dave’s is known for … the ribs! When asked how they were, he was rendered speechless because he didn’t want to ruin the experience of eating them. They were just “that good”!

For me, the side dishes were as good as the entrees, as I enjoyed the crunchy corn on the cob and house-made cornbread. I’m a lover of coleslaw and Famous Dave’s has some of the best I’ve had, with a sweet and peppery flavor.

As if we could eat anymore food, we had to finish the meal off with the house-made pecan praline sauce bread pudding. I normally do not even eat bread pudding, but I gave it a try and I’m so glad I did! This reminded me of a southern tiramisu. All of Famous Dave’s desserts are made in-house and are delicious!

Thank you for this fun and delicious dining experience! We had a couple diners that had never been to Famous Dave’s before and we will all certainly be back many times. It is also great to know there is not only the traditional Famous Dave’s food, but also salads and the new Citrus Grill healthy menu options available.
